Washington, DC – Today, in response to news reports that the United States and China are joining the Paris Climate Agreement, LCV President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:

“Today’s announcement that the U.S. and China – the world’s two largest emitters – will formally join the historic Paris Climate Agreement marks a truly momentous day and underscores the continued momentum for global climate action. President Obama’s unprecedented leadership at home and skillful diplomacy abroad have been essential to international progress on climate change, and we commend him and Chinese President Xi for continuing their partnership to protect current and future generations. As we implement the Paris agreement, it is essential that we accelerate the transition to an economy powered by clean energy and that we defeat polluter-backed efforts to block the landmark Clean Power Plan and other critical progress on climate solutions.”
