WASHINGTON, DC – League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski released this statement following a vote on legislation by Rep. Lee Terry (R-NE) that would force approval of the dangerous Keystone XL tar sands pipeline:

“Keystone proponents are losing momentum. Far more members voted against this bill than the last time the House attempted to approve the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline and proponents didn’t get anywhere close to enough votes to override a Presidential veto.  It’s increasingly clear that the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline is all risk and no reward. We’ve just seen the tar sands pipeline oil spill in Arkansas, the EPA’s recent objections to the State Department’s deeply flawed environmental analysis, and the growing mountain of filthy petcoke in Detroit.  The final decision remains right where it’s been all along – with President Obama and Secretary Kerry.”
