WASHINGTON, DC – League of Conservation Voters Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld released this statement ahead of a vote in the House today on legislation that would dramatically expand risky drilling off our beaches and worsen climate change:

“In stark contrast with President Obama’s common sense plan to tackle the climate crisis, the House is voting on a bill that’s nothing more than a gift to Big Oil. It would put the entire Atlantic coast and the California coast at risk for an oil spill and even endanger Bristol Bay, the largest wild salmon fishery in the world. Oil production in the United States is at its highest level in 20 years, the House of Representatives shouldn’t be filling Big Oil’s coffers even further by passing this risky legislation.”
