WASHINGTON, DC – League of Conservation Voters (LCV) President Gene Karpinski released this statement following the release of President Obama’s plan to make gasoline cleaner and curb harmful tailpipe emissions from passenger vehicles, which is supported by a cross-section of groups from across the health and environmental communities:

“The cars we drive have a major impact on the air we breathe. Harmful chemicals are emitted by tailpipes every day, leading to increased cases of respiratory illnesses including asthma attacks. The President’s plan would be the equivalent of taking 33 million cars off the road over the next four years alone and has broad support from health experts and the auto industry alike. It’s a win for our economy and  a win for public health.”
