BOZEMAN – A new television ad launched today by the Montana Hunters and Anglers Leadership Fund calls Rep. Dennis Rehberg’s bill giving the U.S. Department of Homeland Security control over millions of acres of land in Montana downright “creepy.” The ad, which will air in the Billings, Missoula, and Great Falls media markets, continues the coalition effort between Montana Hunters and Anglers Leadership Fund, Montana Conservation Voters and the League of Conservation Voters to defeat Rehberg's bid to represent Montana in the United States Senate.

“Congressman Rehberg is anti-hunter and anti-fisherman,” said Land Tawney of Missoula, Montana Hunters and Anglers Leadership Fund president. “It is creepy to allow the federal government to use surveillance equipment to monitor ordinary citizens in the places where they hunt, fish, hike or camp, but that’s exactly what Rehberg’s land grab does.”

“Dennis Rehberg has given the feds the green light to spy on Montana families while they hunt, fish and camp,” said Navin Nayak, senior vice president of campaigns for the League of Conservation Voters.

“I don’t like the idea of Homeland Security spying on my family,” a Montana mom says in the ad, against the idyllic background while her family picnics by the lake. The new ad is part of the larger $385,000 campaign that began last week and continues through the end of the month.

H.R. 1505, co-sponsored by Rehberg, was passed as part of a broader package by the U.S. House of Representatives on June 19, 2012. The bill gives Homeland Security access to all federal lands under the jurisdiction of the Agriculture and Interior Secretaries that are within 100 miles of the U.S. border, and allows for, among other things, “installation, maintenance, and operation of surveillance equipment and sensors,” according to the text of the legislation.

Paid for by Montana Hunters and Anglers Leadership Fund, PO Box 734, Billings, MT 59103, and the League of Conservation Voters,, and not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.
