WASHINGTON, DC – The New York League of Conservation Voters Federal Fund (NYLCV) and the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, partnered today to announce their endorsement of Julian Schreibman for the U.S. House of Representatives from New York’s 19th District.

“LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse Julian Schreibman for Congress because he has vowed to stand up to the corporate polluters that are threatening the health and natural beauty of the Hudson Valley and the Catskills region,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “Julian Schreibman understands that investing in clean energy will create sustainable jobs in upstate New York.”

“To put it simply, the last two years in Congress have been terrible for the environment and clean energy. More than ever, we need leaders in Washington who will protect our natural resources and help our country transition to an innovation economy. Julian Schreibman has the vision, the experience and the leadership to get the job done, and that’s why the New York League of Conservation Voters is proud to endorse him for Congress for the 19th District,” NYLCV President Marcia Bystryn said.

As a former federal prosecutor, and current Ulster County Senior District Attorney, Julian Schreibman has years of experience protecting communities. On the environment, Schreibman recognizes the threat hydraulic fracturing – ‘fracking’  –  poses to New York’s water supply and air quality. In order to address this growing issue, he has pledged to help lead the charge to pass the FRAC Act, which would repeal the exemption ‘fracking’ has from the Safe Drinking Water Act and also require the energy industry to disclose the chemicals it pumps underground in the ‘fracking’ process. Schreibman also vows to grow the renewable energy sector by extending incentives like the Production Tax Credit.

“I am honored to have the support of the New York League of Conservation Voters and the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund. Upstate New York is one of the most beautiful places in the country, and we enjoy a wide range of natural resources here,” Julian Schreibman, Hudson Valley/Catskills Congressional candidate, said. “I have spent my career standing up to bullies and cheaters like those at Big Oil, who would destroy the beauty of this region and endanger our long-term economic vitality in order to line their own pockets in the short term. If you send me to Congress, I will always be a loud and strong voice for the needs of our communities which depend upon clean water, clean air, and the development of renewable energy sources.”

Schreibman’s opponent, Rep. Chris Gibson, received a disappointing 17% on LCV’s 2011 National Environmental Scorecard, his first year in Congress.

The non-partisan LCV National Environmental Scorecard is a nationally accepted yardstick used to rate members of Congress on environmental and clean energy issues. Based on key environmental votes in the House and Senate, it is often used by the media to quickly describe a Member’s position. For more information, visit http://www.lcv.org/scorecard.

Julian Schreibman is featured on LCV Action Fund’s GiveGreen website, http://www.givegreen.com, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions and candidates.
