WASHINGTON, D.C. – More than 250,000 Americans concerned about the public health impacts of the assaults on the Clean Air Act in Congress have signed a petition to President Barack Obama thanking him for his continued public statements opposing anti-environmental provisions and asking him to continue to stand up to the big polluters and special interests and veto any legislation that includes riders or other language that would roll back clean air protections.
The 72-hour petition drive, organized by seven groups including Energy Action Coalition, Environmental Defense Fund, League of Conservation Voters, National Wildlife Federation, Natural Resources Defense Council, and Sierra Club, was sparked by a letter delivered to the White House last week from twelve environmental leaders that called on the president to veto any legislation that includes riders that would prevent the EPA from moving forward with updated standards to limit air pollution.
With more and more Americans signing the petition each day, next week Power Shift’s 10,000 youth activists will deliver the full complement of petitions to the White House as part of their meetings in Washington, DC on April 18th.
