WASHINGTON – What anti-science, extreme remark will Ken Cuccinelli make tomorrow? In the past, including in his book, he has been proud about the fact that he disagrees with 97 percent of climate scientists and rejects the basic fact that climate change is a problem. If Cuccinelli is asked about the biggest environmental problem facing Virginians, he may re-use some of the extreme quotes he’s made in the past or he may surprise us with something new. Here’s a taste of some of his past statements:

-  Cuccinelli “called advocates of emissions caps ‘watermelons’: green on the outside and red (communist) on the inside.” [Washington Post

-  Cuccinelli: “[T]he only ‘scientific consensus’ about manmade global warming [is] … a consensus of uncertainty.” In his book The Last Line of Defense, Cuccinelli writes: “[T]he only ‘scientific consensus’ about manmade global warming seemed to be that it is really a consensus of uncertainty—uncertainty that was never shared with the public.” [Cuccinelli, The Last Line of Defense, Page 179]

-  Cuccinelli suggested CO2 can’t be a dangerous pollutant because it “is what we exhale every second of the day.” In his book The Last Line of Defense, Cuccinelli writes: “Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases like methane were pollutants dangerous to public health because they allegedly caused global warming. Yet carbon dioxide is what we exhale every second of the day. It keeps the trees alive and allows them to make the oxygen that keeps us alive. It’s a wonderful symbiotic system that sustains life on earth. But to environmentalists, carbon dioxide is a slow killer. And by declaring it a pollutant … the EPA was able to put a massive part of the U.S. economy under its control under the guise of stopping global warming.” [Cuccinelli, The Last Line of Defense, Page 10-11]

-  Cuccinelli claimed EPA’s efforts to reduce carbon pollution are “based on junk science.” On page 168 of his book, Cuccinelli writes: “[Obama] decided to have his EPA come up with its own version of cap-and-trade…The problem was, the EPA version was based on junk science borrowed from the United Nations.” [Cuccinelli, The Last Line of Defense, Page 168]

-  Cuccinelli suggested climate researchers have “given up the purity of science to forward a global warming agenda … for the research money.” On page 186 of his book The Last Line of Defense, Cuccinelli writes: “One reason climate researchers may have given up the purity of science to forward a global warming agenda was simply for the research money. When researchers in the field of climatology predicted a global warming doomsday, governments were willing to shovel lots of money in their direction to try to find ways to stop it.” [Cuccinelli, The Last Line of Defense, Page 186]
