In response to the passage of the Clean Water Restoration Act out of the Senate Environment and Public Works committee, League of Conservation Voters Legislative Representative Hasan Nazar issued the following statement:

“Congress has stopped dipping its toes in the water and is poised to dive in to replace the safeguards that once protected more than half of America’s drinking water.

“In the last few years, misguided judicial activism has torn up the Clean Water Act and has given corporate polluters the power to dump toxins and other hazardous materials into our water supply.   Passing the strongest possible version of the Clean Water Restoration Act must be a top priority for this Congress this year.

“Today, the Senate Environment and Public Works committee moved us one step closer to cleaner, safer water.  We are grateful to Senator Feingold for introducing this bill and to Senator Boxer for shepherding it through the committee.”
