WASHINGTON, DC – The League of Conservation Voters, which works to turn environmental values into national priorities, is proud to congratulate Martin Heinrich and Ben R. Lujan for their victories in the New Mexico Democratic primary.  Electing environmental champions to Congress is a central part of LCV’s mission, which is why LCV endorsed both Heinrich and Lujan early in the campaign.  Their victories bode well for the environment in the 2008 general election.

LCV invested significant resources into an independent expenditure campaign in support of Ben R. Lujan. LCV made 25,000 phone calls to Democratic primary voters. Environmentalists for Lujan signs appeared throughout the 3rd District, while newspaper and internet advertisements urged environmental voters to support him.

“We are proud to have led the way in supporting these great champions of conservation,” LCV President Gene Karpinski said.  “We look forward to working with them in Congress to bring about a clean, renewable energy future for this country.”
