Washington, DC - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Alan Grayson (FL-08) for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Grayson received a perfect 100% score on LCV’s 2009 National Environmental Scorecard.*
“Representative Grayson has quickly become a leader in the fight to get American workers back on the job to build a 21st-century clean energy economy,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “We are proud to endorse Representative Grayson for re-election because he understands that the policies needed to grow our economy and keep America’s competitive edge are the same policies that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and curb harmful global warming pollution.”
Rep. Grayson voted for the House-passed American Clean Energy and Security Act that would help create over 94,000 clean energy jobs in Florida**, reduce carbon pollution and increase energy independence. He also supported the single largest investment in clean energy in history – more than $80 billion for energy efficiency, renewable energy and public transit in the economic recovery package, with substantial investments going to Florida’s 8th district to create clean energy jobs and more energy efficient schools.
“As we see what has happened in the Gulf, we realize that our world is both precious and fragile,” said Rep. Grayson. “One single broken pipe can destroy thousands of square miles of ocean. We are all environmentalists now. But we rely upon others to keep the environment safe, while the rest of us do the world’s work. And day after day, year after year, the League of Conservation Voters has been doing exactly that. Which is why I am so proud to have their endorsement. Earth – it’s the only planet we’ve got.”
Rep. Grayson believes that renewable energy, efficiency, and conservation are vital components of our energy future. Throughout his time in Congress, Rep. Grayson has been strong advocate of combating pollution and protecting Florida’s water resources through the Clean Water Act and the State Revolving Fund.
"Congressman Grayson has shown early leadership with not only a 100% LCV score in his first year in Congress, but strong support for legislation that strengthen Florida's economy while protecting our environment," said Ilysia Shattuck, Director of the Florida Conservation Alliance. "His commitment to building Florida's clean energy economy will help the Sunshine State be a leader in the 21st Century."
