Washington, DC - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Baron Hill (IN-09) for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Hill received an excellent 86% score on LCV’s 2009 National Environmental Scorecard, and has a strong lifetime score of 75%.*

“Congressman Hill has been a consistent leader in ensuring that America leads the 21st century’s clean energy economy,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “We are proud to endorse Congressman Hill for re-election because he is fighting for policies that will not only build a clean energy economy that gets our workers back on the job, but will also reduce our dependence on foreign oil and curb harmful carbon pollution.”

Rep. Hill’s support was crucial to the House’s passage of the American Clean Energy and Security Act. Rep. Hill also supported the single largest investment in clean energy in history: more than $80 billion for energy efficiency, renewable energy and public transit in the economic recovery package, with substantial investments going to job-creating clean energy and energy efficiency projects in Indiana’s 9th district.

"I am proud to accept the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters,” said Congressman Hill. “I look forward to improving our economy by encouraging clean energy job growth.  This industry will strengthen our economy by ridding us of our dependence on foreign oil and creating jobs that cannot be shipped overseas."

Rep. Hill sits on both the Energy and Commerce Committee and the Science and Technology Committee, putting him in a strong position to craft national policies that advance clean energy and the environment. As a member of the Blue Dog Caucus, Rep. Hill’s support for the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 in Committee sent a strong signal to his moderate colleagues.  Rep. Hill also worked tirelessly in 2007 to raise vehicle fuel economy standards for the first time in decades.**
