WASHINGTON, DC – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Colleen Hanabusa for the U.S. House of Representatives to serve the people of Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District.

“LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse Colleen Hanabusa for the U.S. House of Representatives because she understands that the policies needed to grow Hawaii’s economy and keep America’s competitive edge are the same policies that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and curb harmful carbon pollution,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “Under her leadership, the state legislature has proven its commitment to tackling climate change and working for clean energy policies. Colleen Hanabusa will work in Congress to enact common-sense energy policies that create jobs in Hawaii while ensuring that America leads the 21st century’s clean energy economy.”

“I am humbled by LCV Action Fund’s support,” said Congressional candidate Colleen Hanabusa.   “Today, Hawaii is the most petroleum-dependent state in the nation, but we also possess a diverse array of renewable energy resources that can serve as the foundation of a sustainable future. We have an opportunity to invest in alternative energy research and development to dramatically reduce our dependence on imported oil and establish Hawaii as a leader in effective environmental solutions and practices. I am ready to make that commitment, and I thank LCV Action Fund for their faith in my leadership.”

Hanabusa supports comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and curb harmful carbon pollution. She also believes legislation should require 25 percent of the nation’s electricity come from clean, renewable sources. Further, she has expressed support for fully funding the Land and Water Conservation Fund while opposing efforts to weaken the Clean Air Act. If elected, Hanabusa pledges to provide federal resources to help the University of Hawaii establish programs that will carry it to the forefront in clean energy development and implementation.*

During her tenure as Hawaii State Senator and current Senate President, Hanabusa has championed legislation to tackle climate change and increase the use of clean energy and energy efficiency. Hanabusa has also prioritized efforts to protect watersheds and natural resources. Within her state senate district, Hanabusa has strongly advocated the restoration of the Hono`uli`uli Preserve, which consists of over 3,500 acres of forest conservation land, and she proudly supports the development of a new zero-energy housing community. **
