WASHINGTON DC- The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Dr. Ami Bera for election to the U.S. House of Representatives representing California’s 3rd district.

"LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse Dr. Ami Bera for the U.S. House of Representatives because he understands that instead of spending billions on foreign oil, we should be investing in clean, secure energy sources right here in America," said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. "We are confident that as Congressman Dr. Bera will work to ensure that America – and more importantly California – leads in the creation of the 21st century’s clean energy economy."

"I am very proud to have the support of the League of Conservation Voters," said Dr. Bera. "Their dedication to environmental policy is central to the creation of a green economy. It is important to advance the use of cleaner, homegrown sources of power, and to ensure California leads the way in generating new clean energy jobs."

Of particular importance to Dr. Bera is the ecological health of the nation’s rivers, watersheds, and the San Francisco Bay delta.  If elected to Congress, he said he would support The Clean Water Restoration Act (H.R. 2421 from the 110th Congress), which would help the U.S. federal government deal with water pollution.  Most recently, Dr. Bera served as a board member on the Sacramento Tree Foundation which seeks to plant 5 million new trees by 2025, creating the largest urban forest in the United States.

"Dr. Bera understands the critical intersection of environmental protection, clean energy, job creation and national security, and will be a champion for sustainable and healthy communities in the 3rd District," said Warner Chabot, CEO of the California League of Conservation Voters.

Dr. Bera is challenging Representative Dan Lungren (R-CA) for California’s 3rd district.  Rep. Lungren has repeatedly opposed incentives to boost clean energy production and protect our air and water, which includes voting against American Clean Energy & Security Act last year that would help bring 175,000 new jobs to California.* He has an abysmal lifetime LCV Score of3%.**

To address global warming, Dr. Bera believes corporate polluters must clean up their act and recognizes the crucial intersection between energy reform, job creation, and national security. Further, he believes the nation must invest in cleaner, homegrown sources of power, such as wind, solar, and geothermal and focus on constructing and retrofitting homes and commercial buildings to make them more energy efficient.
