Washington, DC - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Elaine Marshall for U.S. Senate.

“LCV Action Fund is proud to endorse Elaine Marshall for U.S. Senate because she understands that the policies needed to grow North Carolina’s economy and keep America’s competitive edge are the same policies that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and curb harmful carbon pollution,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “Elaine Marshall will work in Congress to enact common-sense energy policies that create jobs in North Carolina while ensuring that America leads the 21st century’s clean energy economy.”

Marshall supports comprehensive energy reform that will help create clean energy jobs in North Carolina, decrease our dangerous dependence on oil and the air our children breathe and the water they drink. She is committed to incentivizing clean energy and energy efficiency and will work to transition the U.S. to a clean energy economy. With the Outer Banks being a major tourist attraction in North Carolina, she understands the need to combat climate change in order to protect the state economy from rising sea levels, depleted fish stocks and ocean acidification*

“Elaine Marshall is the breath of fresh air that North Carolina needs in Washington.  She will be a strong voice for North Carolina values in our nation’s capital,” said Dan Crawford, Director of Governmental Relations for Conservation Council of North Carolina. “Elaine understands that we cannot continue the status quo of allowing Big Oil to set our national energy agenda.  She will fight to bring clean energy jobs to North Carolina while helping our economy recover.  We look forward to working with her in the 112th Congress.”

Elaine Marshall is currently North Carolina’s Secretary of State and previously served in the North Carolina state senate. She is also a lawyer and a small business owner who credits growing up on a small family farm for her commitment to being a careful steward of the land. She believes global warming is a pressing issue and seeks to address it through promoting clean energy jobs, investing in a portfolio of renewable energy technologies and providing incentives for conservation efforts.
