RENO, NV - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Harry Reid for re-election to the U.S. Senate. In his 22 years in the U.S. Senate and four years in the House of Representatives, Sen. Reid has earned a 77% LCV lifetime environmental score and earned a 92% for the 110th Congress.*
"As Senate Majority Leader, Senator Reid has championed efforts to bring new clean energy jobs to Nevada and reduce our dangerous dependence on foreign oil," said LCV Senior Vice President for Political Affairs Tony Massaro. "We are proud to endorse Senator Reid for re-election because he is working to ensure that America - and more importantly Nevada - leads in the creation of the 21st century's clean energy economy."
Sen. Reid has worked as Senate Majority Leader to promote efforts to move comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation in the Senate. Sen. Reid's leadership has ensured that solar investment tax credits were expanded, which have the potential to bring as many as 41,000 jobs to Nevada. Sen. Reid also secured $37 million to help Nevadans make homes and buildings more energy efficient. He led the effort to extend tax credits for energy efficient appliances, homes and buildings, and expand incentives for consumers purchasing plug-in electric drive vehicles.**
"The League of Conservation Voters is a longtime champion of a 21st Century clean energy economy and I am proud to have their support in this campaign," said Sen. Reid. "One of my top priorities continues to be helping Nevada lead the nation in clean energy development to create jobs, turn the economy around and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. I am eager to continue working with the League of Conservation Voters to deliver on that promise for hardworking Nevada families."
For two years in a row Sen. Reid has convened a meeting of national leaders in Las Vegas to discuss the importance of developing the clean energy industry. In doing so, he has been able to highlight Nevada's work on the national stage, making it clear that Nevada is the leader in this field.
