PENNSYLVANIA - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Joe Sestak for U.S. Senate. During his two terms in Congress, Sestak has earned an outstanding 96% on LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard.*
“We are proud to endorse Joe Sestak for U.S. Senate because he understands that instead of spending billions on foreign oil, we should be investing in clean, secure energy sources right here in America,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski. “From his long career as a military leader, he knows that the policies needed to make America more energy independent and improve our national security are the same policies that will put Pennsylvanians back to work in a new clean energy economy.”
Rep. Sestak voted for the House-passed American Clean Energy and Security Act that would help create more than 71,000 new clean energy jobs in Pennsylvania**, reduce carbon pollution and increase energy independence. He also supported the single largest investment in clean energy in history – more than $80 billion for energy efficiency, renewable energy and public transit in the economic recovery package, with substantial investments going to Pennsylvania to create clean energy jobs and retrofit homes and businesses for energy efficiency.
"I am proud to stand with a group that shares my belief that making conservation and clean energy among our top domestic priorities is critical for our economy and national security," said Joe. "We need to put aside political ideology and find practical solutions to reduce energy costs and spur investment in clean energy. This will create green jobs and reduce our dangerous dependence on foreign oil. I look forward to continue to work toward these goals in the Senate."
Rep. Sestak also supports a Renewable Electricity Standard to require that 25% of our nation’s electricity comes from renewable sources like solar and wind by 2025. Rep. Sestak has placed a priority on ensuring safe and reliable drinking water for all Pennsylvanians. In his district, he has worked closely with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to craft and get funding for a partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to perform a comprehensive District-wide evaluation of water quality needs.***
