WASHINGTON, DC - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of John Boccieri (OH-16) for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Boccieri received an impressive 93% score on LCV’s 2009 National Environmental Scorecard.*
“During his tenure, Congressman Boccieri has fought to bring clean energy jobs to Ohio and reduce our national dependence on foreign oil,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “We endorse Congressman Boccieri for re-election because we know he will support efforts to make clean energy the profitable type of energy for Ohio and help the U.S. lead in the 21st century’s clean energy economy.”
Rep. Boccieri voted for the House-passed American Clean Energy and Security Act that would help create over 67,000 clean energy jobs in Ohio**, reduce carbon pollution and increase energy independence. He also supported the single largest investment in clean energy in history – more than $80 billion for energy efficiency, renewable energy and public transit in the economic recovery package, with substantial investments going to Ohio’s 16th district to create clean energy jobs and promote energy efficiency.
Jim McGregor, former Republican member of the Ohio House of Representatives and current Director of the Ohio League of Conservation Voters said of Congressman Boccieri, "It was a great privilege to serve in the Ohio House with Representative Boccieri. John is a man of character, forethought and strength. He fought alongside our sons and daughters in Iraq and uniquely understands the need to make America less dependent on oil from hostile nations and invest in clean, American power. He is the kind of guy we want fighting for us in Washington D.C."
As a Major in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, Rep. Boccieri understands that our dependence on foreign oil is a great threat to our national security. He believes that if we invest in renewable technologies it will lead to homegrown, secure energy while creating jobs and turning around the economy in the 16th district.
Rep. Boccieri is also featured on LCVAF’s GiveGreen website, http://lcv.org/givegreen, the only bundling website devoted exclusively to raising money for environmental champions and candidates.
