Washington, DC - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Mary Jo Kilroy (OH-15) for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Rep. Kilroy has a perfect 100% LCV lifetime environmental score.*
“We are proud to endorse Congresswoman Kilroy for re-election because she understands that the policies needed to build a clean energy economy that puts Ohioans back to work will at the same time reduce our dangerous dependence on foreign oil and curb harmful global warming pollution,” said LCV Action Fund President Gene Karpinski.
Rep. Kilroy voted for the House-passed American Clean Energy and Security Act that would help create over 67,000 clean energy jobs in Ohio**, reduce carbon pollution and increase energy independence. She also supported the single largest investment in clean energy in history – more than $80 billion for energy efficiency, renewable energy and public transit in the economic recovery package, with substantial investments going to Ohio’s 15th district to create jobs improving energy efficiency and building public transportation.
“If we don't get serious about creating a new energy economy that delivers on the promise of thousands of new jobs for us in central Ohio, then I assure you, China and India will,” said Congresswoman Kilroy. “Some of that is already happening now, but we need to do more, and that's why I'll continue to support the energy bill and fight to bring that investment here.”
During her tenure, Rep. Kilroy has consistently supported efforts to create clean energy jobs, including working to secure more than $266 million to weatherize homes across Ohio.*** Rep Kilroy also introduced the “Energy Efficiency Modernization Act of 2009,” legislation to create market-based incentives to increase the energy efficiency of federally subsidized housing, creating clean energy jobs and saving taxpayers money.****
