Denver, CO - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect candidates who will implement sound environmental policies, today announced its endorsement of Michael Bennet for the U.S. Senate.

“During his first term, Senator Bennet supported efforts to bring new clean energy jobs to Colorado and make America less dependent on oil from hostile nations,” said LCV Senior Vice President and Colorado native Tony Massaro. “We are proud to endorse Senator Bennet for election because he is working to ensure that America – and more importantly Colorado – leads in the creation of the 21st century’s new clean energy economy.”

In 2009, Senator Bennet consistently supported measures that will help build a clean energy economy such as the extension of renewable energy tax credits and incentives for energy efficiency. He voted for the single largest investment in clean energy in history – more than $80 billion for energy efficiency, renewable energy and public transit in the economic recovery package, with substantial investments going to Colorado such as nearly $6 million in recovery act grants to create in-state clean energy jobs.*

"I'm proud to accept this endorsement from the League of Conservation Voters.  LCV, and their Colorado affiliate Colorado Conservation Voters, have worked tirelessly for decades to protect clean air, clean water and open spaces across Colorado and the nation,” said Senator Michael Bennet. “I believe we hold our western heritage -- our land, water, and wildlife -- in trust for our children and that we have a moral obligation to manage our resources responsibly so that they can be enjoyed by the next generation.  As a U.S. Senator, I have worked hard to fulfill that obligation.”

Senator Bennet believes renewable energy tax credits should be made permanent and supports a requirement that 25 percent of our electricity be generated from renewable sources by 2025.**  He supports efforts to pass comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation that will create jobs, reduce carbon pollution and increase energy independence.
