WASHINGTON – Today, the Obama administration announced a joint policy initiative by the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Transportation to adopt greenhouse gas reduction and efficiency standards for new passenger vehicles in model years 2017-2025. League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:
"We applaud the Obama administration's clean cars announcement. Imagine the cost savings involved for consumers who will need to fill up their gas tanks about half as often as they currently do. That's what the average new car driver in 2025 can look forward to if the Obama Administration finalizes these new fuel economy standards. In addition to saving consumers money at the pump, these standards will decrease our dependence on oil and protect the planet from global warming pollution."
