WASHINGTON, DC — The election of LCV-endorsed Bill Foster to Congress in a special election in Illinois’s 14th district marks a continuation of the trend begun in 2006: Americans want a new direction — especially when it comes to global warming and America’s energy future. Foster, a scientist with a deep understanding of the issues we face, replaces former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, whose lifetime LCV score of 11 percent ranked him among America’s worst legislators on environmental issues.
“I appreciate the support of the League of Conservation Voters and will be proud to work with them to bring about a clean, renewable energy future for this country,” Foster said.
“The people of Illinois clearly want real action on global warming and electing Bill Foster was a great step in the right direction,” LCV President Gene Karpinski said. “Unlike his predecessor, Congressman-elect Foster understands the issues at stake and will make the right choices for his constituents and for America. We look forward to working with a new ally from Illinois."
