FLAGSTAFF - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) which works to turn environmental values into national priorities, today announced the endorsement of Representative Ann Kirkpatrick for Congress in the election for Arizona’s 1st Congressional District.  LCV Senior Vice President for Political Affairs and Public Education Tony Massaro joined Kirkpatrick at the kickoff celebration of Conservationists for Kirkpatrick at Flagstaff’s Wheeler Park.
"Clean, renewable energy will not only protect our environment, it will create thousands of clean jobs in states like Arizona,” Massaro said. “But the clean energy revolution will require serious leaders, and Ann has proven her deep understanding of these issues and her commitment to getting things done.”
Throughout her life and career, Kirkpatrick has committed herself to defending Arizona’s natural heritage for future generations.  During her time in the Arizona Legislature, Ann fought to protect Arizona families by keeping our air and water clean.  She pushed to make the state a leader in solar energy, to protect our environment and to create jobs.
“At our state capitol, Ann stood out for her vision and leadership on key conservation issues,” Arizona League of Conservation Voters Board Chair Jessica Catlin said.  “I know she will take those qualities with her to our nation’s capitol.” *
Representative Kirkpatrick earned a place on the Arizona League of Conservation Voters (AZLCV) 2007 Honor Roll with a 100% environmental voting record. She voted to increase energy efficiency in schools, to protect Arizona’s drinking water, and cosponsored a bill to ensure the right of families to use Arizona’s sunshine to reduce their energy costs.
“Clean energy will strengthen our economy, our environment and our national security,” Kirkpatrick said.  “I am honored by LCV’s endorsement and the support of so many conservationists here in Arizona.  Together, we will protect Arizona’s treasured environment and set this country on course for a clean energy future.”
* Note: The national League of Conservation Voters and the Arizona League of Conservation Voters are separate organizations.  Today's endorsement comes from the national LCV.
