Washington, DC - The League of Conservation Voters, which works to turn environmental values into national priorities, today announced the endorsement of Chellie Pingree for Congress in the election for Maine’s first district. Pingree, a long-standing champion of conservation and clean energy, is running in the Democratic primary.
"Science tells us that we only have few years left to reverse the effects of global warming, and America needs leaders capable of bold action," LCV President Gene Karpinski said. “In a state that is leading the nation on clean energy and conservation, Chellie stands out for her deep understanding of these issues and her commitment to getting things done.”
Throughout her life and career, Pingree has committed herself to defending Maine’s natural beauty for future generations. During her time in the Maine Legislature, Chellie sponsored and successfully fought for the $50 million “Land for Maine’s Future” bond issue. Chellie was also the major sponsor of the Maine Cleaner Cars program, which made it easier for Mainers to buy less polluting cars and trucks. Her campaign is 100% powered by clean, renewable wind energy.
“It takes great courage and leadership for a member of the House of Representatives to stand up to Big Oil, but we know that Chellie has the guts to fight for what is right,” Karpinski said. “She will be a great champion for Maine, for our planet, and for America’s clean energy future.”
