LCV Responds to Al Gore's Vision for a New Energy Economy
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, drawing parallels to President Kennedy's challenge to put a man on the moon, former Vice President Al Gore issued a challenge to our nation: powering America with 100% renewable electricity in ten years. Gore stated this goal will be 'achievable, affordable and transformative.' Gore called on every candidate for every office in the country to take the 100% renewable in 10-year pledge.

LCV President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:
“As Americans struggle with high gas prices, a sagging economy and ever worsening impacts from global climate change, Al Gore today laid out a bold and impressive vision for America’s energy future,” LCV President Gene Karpinski said. “This was more than a speech, it was a statement of truth: that America is ready, willing and able to create new sources of energy that will free us from our addiction to oil, provide consumers with real energy choices, create new jobs, and take significant steps to combat global warming.”
Moving our energy economy over the next 10 years toward clean, renewable energy and prioritizing energy efficiency will make America more secure at home and abroad. The transition will finally break the tyranny of Big Oil and the Wall Street speculators who are preying upon American consumers and our economy. Fundamentally changing the way we generate and use electricity will create thousands of jobs, jump-start the economy and may just be the largest economic stimulus package this country has ever seen.
But neither Al Gore nor LCV will be able to bring about this future alone. Embracing this future will take strong leadership from the next President and the next Congress. Mostly, it will take the will of the American people to demand change.”
