WASHINGTON, DC – League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski today responded to a study released by the National Association of Manufacturers and the American Council for Capital Formation, a group financed by Big Oil companies, which boasts Red Cavaney, the President and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute, on its board.

“Once again, Big Oil companies used their record profits, ripped from the pockets of ordinary Americans, to buy a study to back up a pre-determined conclusion they wanted to hear,” Karpinski said. “Rather than embrace the economic opportunity of redefining how we create and use energy in our country, they prefer fear-mongering to keep us addicted to dirty fossil fuels that contribute to global warming.  Independent studies have found that clean, renewable energy will save billions of dollars in oil imports, reduce energy costs and create millions of jobs.  Is anyone surprised that a specious study created by industry front-groups came to a different conclusion?"
