WASHINGTON – Today, House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Jim Oberstar (D-MN) introduced the America’s Commitment to Clean Water Act (ACCWA).

LCV Legislative Representative Hasan Nazar issued the following statement on the announcement:

"The Clean Water Act was first implemented nearly 40 years ago. However, in the past decade, misguided court decisions and Bush Administration directives opened the door for corporate polluters to contaminate previously protected waters – putting the drinking supply of over 117 million Americans at risk."

"We applaud Chairman Oberstar for his continued leadership as clean water is one of the most crucial public health, safety and environmental issues we face. This critical step should build upon Senate action last June to address our dated clean water policies. We look forward to working with the House of Representatives to pass the strongest possible bill."
