WASHINGTON - Today, the U.S. Senate rejected Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s “Big Oil Bailout” resolution that would gut the Clean Air Act, put public health at risk and jeopardize long-overdue action to hold the biggest polluters accountable.
LCV President Gene Karpinski released the following statement in response:
“We applaud the Senate for rejecting Senator Murkowski’s ‘Big Oil Bailout’ that would keep the U.S. dangerously dependent on oil and delay our transition to a clean energy economy that creates jobs, reduces pollution and increases energy independence. As millions of gallons of oil spew into the Gulf Coast from the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history, the U.S Senate has wisely voted against helping Big Oil and its allies keep America addicted to oil.”
“With today’s rebuke of this appalling attack on the Clean Air Act, Senators must renew their efforts to swiftly pass comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation that will move us towards a cleaner, more secure energy future.”
