WASHINGTON, DC - League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski issued this statement in reaction to the House leadership announcement of agreement on energy legislation:
“We applaud the agreement on energy legislation announced by the House Leadership last night. This legislation will put a much-needed positive charge into America’s energy future and spur the new jobs of the new economy.
Increasing automobile fuel efficiency and creating a federal renewable electricity standard represent a dramatic move away from the dirty fossil fuels of the past and toward a clean, renewable energy future.
This bill is a major opportunity to conduct the power of the American people, who are tired of the static policies of the Bush Administration and who helped bring about the kinetic change in Congress last election.
We look forward to working with leaders in the House to pass this forward-looking bill when it comes to the House floor next week.”
