In response to today’s release of the Waxman-Markey draft clean energy and global warming legislation, League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement.
“With the release of this discussion draft, Chairmen Waxman and Markey have taken the next critical step toward passing a comprehensive clean energy and global warming bill this year. In the 2008 elections, voters called for action on clean energy and global warming. President Obama has embraced that call with his address to Congress and his forward-looking budget proposal. Today, Chairmen Waxman and Markey have taken the next important step.
“Their discussion draft follows President Obama’s lead, recognizing that limiting global warming pollution will bring about a clean energy economy that creates jobs, improves our national security, and protects our planet.
“LCV applauds these two forward-thinking legislators for their vision. We look forward to working with them and with leaders from both chambers of Congress and with President Obama to enact a strong, science-based bill into law this year.”
