WASHINGTON - League of Conservation Voters (LCV) President Deb Callahan released the following statement today after House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (CA) unveiled the House Democrats' "Innovation Agenda" at the National Press Club.

"Today's introduction of the "Innovation Agenda" is a step in the right direction.

"We at the League of Conservation Voters are impressed with the plan's goal of achieving energy independence. We agree with Representative Pelosi that American ingenuity and the American work ethic can wean us off our dangerous dependence on foreign oil. She is absolutely right when she says it is much safer for us to look to the Midwest rather than the Middle East for real energy solutions, such as clean, sustainable energy alternatives and new initiatives within the Energy Department to encourage these energy sources.  By prioritizing conservation as well as clean and renewable energy sources, we can protect our environment and natural resources for future generations.

"LCV challenges members of Congress on both sides of the aisle to embrace forward-thinking and innovative ideas like these for addressing our energy needs."
