NARBERTH, PA - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV), the independent political voice for the environment, today announced its endorsement of PA State Treasurer Bob Casey (D) for election to the U.S. Senate, citing his work in fighting for the health and quality of life of Pennsylvania families.

"LCV is proud to endorse Bob Casey for election to the U.S. Senate," said LCV Senior Vice President for Political Affairs Tony Massaro.  "Treasurer Casey understands that a clean environment and a strong economy go hand-in-hand. He also understands we can't drill our way to energy independence, but instead must take real steps to wean ourselves from foreign oil while protecting our environment and protecting Pennsylvania's economy.  We urge all Pennsylvania voters to join us in supporting Bob Casey as the next U.S. Senator from the Keystone State."

Massaro said that Bob Casey believes that Congress must be responsive to the desire of Pennsylvania families for a clean and healthy environment.  He supports increased funding for Brownfields clean up and if elected, will work to ensure the Superfund program is funded so polluters, not taxpayers, foot the bill for clean up of toxic pollution.

Massaro also said Bob Casey supports real solutions to our energy problems, such as meaningful investments in hybrids, clean, alternative energy technologies and conservation.  He understands that these forward-thinking policies will protect our environment and create more jobs here in the U.S.  He is also committed to safeguarding open spaces and public lands, including protection of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from oil drilling.

Bob Casey's pro-environment views and positions stand in stark contrast to those of Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA), who has one of the worst environmental records in Congress.  Sen. Santorum earned a 0% on LCV's 2004 National Environmental Scorecard and has an abysmal 10% lifetime voting score.  He has repeatedly opposed funding for land conservation programs and let polluters off the hook by voting to weaken clean air and clean water protections.  He also sided with corporate lobbyists and special interests when he supported deeply flawed energy legislation that rewards big oil companies making record profits, while doing nothing to protect consumers from skyrocketing gas and home heating prices.

"LCV sees that Bob Casey is dedicated to Broad Street in Philadelphia, Forbes Avenue in Pittsburgh, Peach Street in Erie and Keystone Avenue in Sayre- and all of Pennsylvania, while it is obvious to us Rick Santorum's attention continues to be focused on K Street in Washington," said LCV PA Campaign Director Susan Gobreski.
