WASHINGTON, DC - The League of Conservation Voters (LCV), the independent political voice for the environment, today announced its endorsement of Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME) for re-election, citing her inspired leadership in fighting for the environment in the face of a parade of remarkably bad legislation in Congress.

"LCV is proud to endorse Olympia Snowe for re-election to the U.S. Senate," said LCV Senior Vice President for Political Affairs Tony Massaro.  "Senator Snowe's principled and independent approach to environmental issues is a credit to her and the citizens she represents. We urge all Maine voters to join us in supporting Senator Snowe's re-election."

As a key member of the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, Senator Snowe has worked diligently for the interests of both the State of Maine and the nation as a whole on issues like reducing mercury pollution, increasing fuel economy standards, combating global warming and providing home heating assistance to those who need it the most.  These issues are particularly important to Maine families given that mercury levels in Maine fish are among the highest in the country and home heating fuel is a necessity to Maine consumers during the winter.

"I am deeply honored to receive this endorsement, because like the League of Conservation Voters I have always believed that we must do all we can to protect our nation's most precious resources," said Senator Snowe. "Throughout my tenure, I have remained committed to supporting legislative initiatives that provide for clean air, safe water and protected public lands, and I will always look for new ways to preserve our environment for future generations."
