League of Conservation Voters Endorses Amy Klobuchar in Minnesota

LCV Cites Pledge to Battle Global Warming and Commitment to Foster Renewable Energy Options.

Washington, DC – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV), the independent political voice for the environment, today announced its endorsement of Amy Klobuchar for United States Senate, citing her commitment to sustainable renewable energy and dedication to protecting the environment.

“LCV is proud to endorse Amy Klobuchar because she understands that energy independence will create the economy of the future by creating jobs and assuring America’s rightful place as the world’s leading innovator,” said LCV Senior Vice President for Political Affairs Tony Massaro.  “She also understands that the best way to energy independence is to grow this new economy by developing new and improved energy resources, counting on American ingenuity, American know-how and the American work ethic to reach our goals.”

As Chief Prosecutor in Hennepin County, Ms. Klobuchar’s office aggressively prosecuted environmental violators while working with other agencies to develop strategies to return brownfields and other properties to productive economic use. She was ahead of the curve in proposing initiatives to invest in renewable energy and reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

On the other hand, Ms. Klobuchar’s opponent, Rep. Mark Kennedy, scored an 11 out of 100 on the 2005 LCV National Environmental Scorecard.

“Minnesota deserves a Senator who will protect our communities, keep our water and natural resources clean and invest in new energy resources -- ethanol, biodiesel and wind,” said Klobuchar.  “I will fight for a national strategy to address global warming and put strong national standards in place to preserve our open spaces, farmlands, hunting lands and wetlands.”
