LCV Cites Her Commitment To Energy Independence As Key To America’s Security and Economic Future
WASHINGTON, DC – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV), the independent political voice for the environment, today announced its endorsement of Tammy Duckworth in the race for Illinois’s 6th Congressional District, citing her commitment to economic and national security through a sustained American program for energy independence.
“LCV is proud to endorse Tammy Duckworth because she understands that it is time we use America’s ingenuity and know-how to reduce our dependence on oil, and create huge new economic opportunities as a result,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “Tammy’s passion and commitment to these and other issues in the 6th District is a reflection of all that is good about public service, and as a result we see her as an environmental champion in Congress.”
Ms. Duckworth is firmly committed to promoting policies that will encourage – through incentive-based programs – the development of alternative energy sources as well as a hybrid economy to take advantage of them. She has also been critical of the passage of an energy bill last year that included more than $14 billion in tax breaks and subsidies to the oil and gas industry.
“Tammy knows the time has come in increase the mileage standards for cars, she knows it is time to focus on solar, wind and biofuel technology and most importantly, she knows this is the moment for America to use this work to reinvigorate our economy,” Mr. Karpinski said. “From her work at Northern Illinois University exploring links between radon and cancer to her military service, Tammy’s devotion to something greater than herself is an inspiration.
“I am extremely gratified by this endorsement from the League of Conservation Voters. LCV is a leader in the efforts to fight for a cleaner environment, safe drinking water and energy independence, all goals shared by families in the 6th Congressional District,” Ms. Duckworth said. “I am eager to work alongside LCV to stand up and fight for these priorities on behalf of our community and our country.
