WASHINGTON, DC – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV), the independent political voice for the environment, today announced its endorsement of Kirsten Gillibrand in the race for New York’s 20th Congressional District, praising her forward-looking vision for an energy independent America.
“LCV is proud to endorse Kirsten Gillibrand,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “We believe Kirsten Gillibrand’s commonsense approach to solving our country’s energy problems will make her an environmental leader in Congress. She knows that by investing in clean, renewable energy, we can build a stronger economy while protecting our existing resources and creating good American jobs.”
Among other pro-environment positions, Ms. Gillibrand supports government investment in renewable energy sources and technology. Ms. Gillibrand believes that energy independence must become a national priority, and if elected to Congress, would help lead a national initiative to end America’s dangerous reliance on oil.
Ms. Gillibrand supports common sense conservation measures that would help American consumers, such as making cars go further on a gallon of gas. She also believes nationally significant wild places, such as the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, should be permanently protected.
“I am honored to be endorsed by the national League of Conservation Voters. The Hudson Valley is a beautiful region and a commitment to the environment must be a priority in keeping this area a national leader for advancement of renewable energy sources, agriculture, outdoor recreation and tourism,” said Kirsten Gillibrand.
