WASHINGTON, DC – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV), the independent political voice for the environment, today announced its endorsement of Mike Erlandson in the race for Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, citing his commitment to controlling global warming through mandatory caps on greenhouse gas pollutants and an American economic revival based on the development of new and clean energy sources.

"LCV is proud to endorse Mike Erlandson, a public servant who understands that if we do not act now to address global warming, we will leave our children an unhealthy world where all the other policies we cherish mean little," said LCV President Gene Karpinski. "Mike Erlandson also seeks to seize the innovative spirit of  Americans as we develop a new economy based on clean and renewable energy sources, and is committed to making environmental protection and sustainability a priority of the federal government. We need more environmental champions in Congress and Mike would be a real leader on these critical issues."

In his detailed policy agenda, other initiatives Mr. Erlandson supports include increased incentives for the purchase of alternative fuel and hybrid vehicles, federal assistance in creating more alternative fuels infrastructure in cities and commonsense steps like requiring that cars go further on a gallon of gas. He also supports investment in alternative energy technologies that will reinvigorate the innovative spirit of American business.  Mr. Erlandson also understands that when it comes to reducing global warming gases, all states must do their fair share and be treated equally under the law.

"A healthy environment is fundamental to our future, and we cannot leave a sick planet as our legacy to our children.  Ending global warming and protecting America's wilderness and water are main focuses of my campaign, and I will make them a top priority in Washington.  I will also fight to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, and promote clean, renewable, home-grown energy that slows global warming and strengthens our economy.  It is an honor to be endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters, one of the most respected environmental advocacy organizations," said Mr. Erlandson.
