Washington, DC – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV), the independent political voice for the environment, today announced its endorsement of Representative Wayne Gilchrest for re-election in Maryland’s First Congressional District, citing his support for protection of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and increased fuel economy standards.
“LCV is proud to endorse Wayne Gilchrest, whose fervent devotion to bipartisan solutions makes him an invaluable member of Congress,” said LCV President Gene Karpinski. “Wayne’s recognition of the importance of common-sense solutions to our energy problems – like requiring that cars go further on a tank of gas – his devotion to protecting the Chesapeake Bay and his strong belief that drilling in the Arctic Refuge would be wasteful and unnecessary are proof positive of his commitment. Voters in Maryland’s First District can be proud of Wayne Gilchrest.”
He voted to hold the producers of the harmful gasoline additive MTBE liable for their products’ effects, and voted to prevent the federal government from usurping local authority in the siting of Liquid Natural Gas Facilities.
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of one of the nation’s most respected voices for the environment. I have made the protection of our natural resources and the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay a cornerstone of my service in Congress, and it is gratifying to be honored for this work,” Rep. Gilchrest said.
