League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Senior Vice President for Political Affairs Tony Massaro issued the following statement after Colorado Representative Marilyn Musgrave invited California Representative Richard Pombo to Greeley, Colorado for a House Resources Committee Hearing today regarding the Endangered Species Act:

"We understand Rep. Musgrave has invited her public lands-selling, Big Oil-favoring, special interests-loving friend Rep. Richard Pombo of California to Colorado for a hearing.  It will make the perfect photo-op: two oil soaked peas in a pod. Both Rep. Pombo and Rep. Musgrave have taken over $100,000 from Big Oil, and have subsequently voted against the best interests of the American public .

Rep. Pombo has led America backwards in terms of energy policy and environmental protection. Time and time again, Rep. Pombo has voted against practical solutions to our energy problems such as requiring new cars to go further on a gallon of gas.  He has tried to gut current environmental safeguards to keep America's water and skies clean, and has led a campaign to sell-off precious public lands and national parks, which are owned by the American public and enjoyed by our nation's hikers, hunters, fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts.

And Rep. Musgrave is following in her friend Rep. Pombo's footsteps. Like Pombo, Rep. Musgrave has voted to give tax breaks to oil companies already making record profits, while Colorado farmers are paying record prices for diesel and Colorado families are left struggling with higher energy costs.  Also like Rep. Pombo,  Rep. Musgrave supports denying wilderness status to America's most important wild places, such as the Rocky Mountain National Park.

The League of Conservation Voters is today calling on Marilyn Musgrave to denounce her guest's extreme views on the conservation of public lands, big oil and gas company tax breaks, and energy policy. The fourth district of Colorado deserves better."
