WASHINGTON, DC – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV), the independent political voice for the environment, today announced its endorsement of Tim Mahoney in the race for Florida’s 16th Congressional District seat, citing his commitment to renewable energy and protecting Florida’s coasts.

“LCV is proud to endorse Tim Mahoney for Congress,” LCV President Gene Karpinski said.  “Tim understands that the key to a clean energy future is to invest in renewable and alternative energy sources, such as wind and solar power.  In Congress, Tim Mahoney will stand up to special interests and protect Florida’s beautiful coast and pristine open spaces.”

In addition to his support of renewable energy and protecting Florida’s coasts, Mr. Mahoney is deeply committed to Everglade restoration.  He will also work to protect other special places in America from drilling, such as the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Mr. Mahoney also recognizes the threat global warming poses and supports reductions in global warming emissions.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the League of Conservation Voters. From the Everglades to our coastline, Lake Okeechobee to the St. Lucie River, Florida’s 16th District is one of the most scenic, biologically diverse and endangered natural ecosystems in the world,” Tim Mahoney said. “In Congress, I will fight to protect the treasures that attract millions of visitors to Florida each year and provide the backbone of our economy. We need to protect our environment because it is nature’s defense against hurricanes and other natural catastrophes, and it provides the water we drink and the air we breathe.”
