WASHINGTON, DC – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV), the independent political voice for the environment, today announced its endorsement of Jim Webb in the race for Virginia Senate.

“LCV is proud to endorse Jim Webb for U.S. Senate,” LCV President Gene Karpinski said.  “Jim Webb understands that it is time we use America’s ingenuity to reduce our dependence on oil by creating economic opportunities through investments in clean, renewable energy technologies.  As a lifelong hunter and angler, Webb’s conservation ethic is rooted in the desire to preserve this country’s natural treasures -- such as Virginia’s Jefferson National Forest -- for future generations.”

Karpinski noted Mr. Webb is also committed to additional common sense solutions to our energy challenges, including simple steps like requiring new cars to go further on a gallon of gas, which will help the pocketbooks of consumers while improving our environment.  He also supports important public health provisions, such as the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts.

Mr. Karpinski said, “From his work as Secretary of the Navy to his military and community service efforts both at home and abroad, Jim Webb’s devotion to the notions of something greater than himself is an inspiration to all Americans.”

“I am honored to receive an endorsement from the League of Conservation Voters.” Mr. Webb said. “As an avid hunter and fisherman, I understand how to balance the demands of the consumer with the desire to promote a healthy environment, so we can sustain the beauty of Virginia for generations to come.”
