WASHINGTON, DC - League of Conservation Voters (LCV) President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement in reaction to news that former Vice President Al Gore has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for his work to elevate the issue of global warming:
"Former Vice President Al Gore deserves considerable applause for his unprecedented effort to tell the story of global warming in theaters, auditoriums and living rooms across the country and around the world. No one has done more to turn up the heat on our need to cool down the planet.
Thanks in no small part to Mr. Gore’s work, the public now understands that global warming is one of the biggest challenges looming in our future. Fortunately, Mr. Gore’s work has also jumpstarted the conversation in Congress about commonsense solutions to global warming, such as a capping greenhouse gas pollution, investing in clean, renewable energy and making cars go further on a gallon of gas.
Congratulations to Mr. Gore on this great honor.”
