WASHINGTON, DC - League of Conservation Voters (LCV) President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement in response to "An Inconvenient Truth" winning an Academy Award for Best Documentary Film:

"No one has done more to turn up the heat on our need to cool down the planet than Al Gore.

Mr. Gore and the "Truth" team deserve considerable applause not only for producing a great documentary, but for bringing the story of global warming front and center in our national debate.

With its eye-opening images and compelling storyline, this film helped jump start not only the current debate on global warming solutions in the presidential primary process, but in Congressional hearing rooms, board rooms and living rooms across the country and around the world.

Congratulations to Former Vice President Al Gore, Davis Guggenheim, Laurie David, Lawrence Bender, and the rest of the "An Inconvenient Truth" team on this well-deserved honor."
