"The League of Conservation Voters applauds Representatives Oberstar (D-MN), Dingell (D-MI) and Ehlers (R-MI) for introducing the commonsense Clean Water Restoration Act to keep all of America's water clean and safe - from drinking water for our communities to lakes and streams where our families swim, fish and boat.
With more than 150 cosponsors and broad bipartisan support, this bill is an important step in securing and clarifying the original Clean Water Act to protect all of our nation's waters - including wetlands and streams.
Even though the original Clean Water Act has had many successes in reducing water pollution, recent reports demonstrate that 39 percent of our rivers and stream miles and 46 percent of our lakes are unsafe for fishing or swimming.
In order to clean-up our nation's water and provide safe drinking water for our families - we need to strengthen clean water protections, not roll them back as the Administration has tried to do. We look forward to working with members of Congress to pass this important legislation to improve water quality and protect public health."
