League of Conservation Voters Senior Vice President Tony Massaro issued this statement following news that Senator Barack Obama will limit his participation in debates and forums:

"The League of Conservation Voters and the California League of Conservation Voters have already invited all of the candidates to a forum on energy and global warming in California later this fall.

As Senator Obama said in Iowa earlier today, energy is an "urgent moral challenge that demands attention now," yet because of the filter of the media questioners, there has not been a substantive debate on this pressing issue.

The twin challenges of global warming and energy are especially a priority for California voters, and given the state's early primary, our forum offers a critical opportunity for the candidates to outline their vision for tackling the energy crisis.

We would be greatly disappointed if Senator Obama were to decline this important invitation."
