WASHINGTON, DC - League of Conservation Voters (LCV) President Gene Karpinski issued this statement following news reports that the Bush Administration is again censoring the work of its leading scientists, just like they previously censored NASA's James Hansen and others, this time drastically omitting over two-thirds of the Director of the Center for Disease Control's (CDC) testimony on the heath threats posed by global warming before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee:
"The Administration's pattern of censoring their own scientists is not only unethical, it's dangerous. Instead of following the advice of our nation's best scientists on global warming, White House staff are once again preventing the public from hearing the truth from their own scientists about the importance of curbing global warming.
The Administration should stop the hatchet job on science and release CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding's full testimony."
The nonprofit League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is the independent political voice for the environment. To secure the environmental future of our planet, LCV's mission is to advocate for sound environmental policies and to elect pro-environmental candidates who will adopt and implement such policies.
