WASHINGTON – Today, LCV President Gene Karpinski joined business, veteran, labor and environmental leaders in a meeting with President Obama to discuss how clean energy can provide economic growth opportunities, and why it is critical to creating jobs and a clean energy economy in the U.S.

LCV President Gene Karpinski released the following statement about today’s meeting:

“President Obama has made clear that the nation that leads in the creation of a clean energy economy will be the nation that leads the 21st century's global economy, and we are pleased that the president has reaffirmed his commitment to enact comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation next year.”

“A comprehensive approach to energy -- including mandatory limits on carbon pollution -- will create the necessary market stability for entrepreneurs and businesses to invest in a new energy economy that will spark American ingenuity and create new clean energy jobs.”

“From converting shuttered factories to manufacturing  wind turbines and solar panels to retrofitting our office buildings, schools and home to improve energy efficiency, there is a vast untapped potential for new jobs that put Americans back to work while also making the U.S. more energy independent and protecting the planet for future generations.”
