WASHINGTON – Today, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee reported out clean energy legislation after a two-day boycott by Republicans within the committee. The bill’s approval came on the heels of a joint press conference by Senators Kerry, Graham and Lieberman where they committed to a bipartisan compromise on climate legislation.
LCV President Gene Karpinski released the following statement on the EPW approval:
“While we’re disappointed that Senator Inhofe led committee Republicans to not participate in the mark-up process, Senator Boxer has brought us one step closer to passing a clean energy and climate bill. We are encouraged by the bipartisan support building in the Senate and we welcome continued engagement by Senators Kerry, Graham and Lieberman and others as they pave the way to 60 votes on this important legislation.”
