WASHINGTON, D.C. - VoteVets.org, League of Conservation Voters & America’s Building Trades Unions Launch Ad Campaign to Hold Reps. Barrow, Blunt & Ross Accountable for Opposition to Clean Energy Bill
On the heels of their votes against a comprehensive clean energy bill, VoteVets.org, the League of Conservation Voters and America’s Building Trades Unions launched a joint television ad campaign to hold Reps. John Barrow (D-Ga.), Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and Mike Ross (D-Ark.) accountable for opposing legislation that would create millions of new clean energy jobs and reduce our dangerous dependence on foreign oil.
Last week, Reps. Barrow, Blunt and Ross voted against the American Clean Energy & Security Act (H.R. 2454) in the House Energy & Commerce Committee. The legislation was voted out of the committee by a bipartisan group of 33 House members. Additionally, the bill has received unprecedented support from a broad range of corporations, utilities, labor unions, veterans, environmentalists and sportsmen, including Duke Energy, American Electric Power, GE, Johnson & Johnson and the AFL-CIO.

“Billions in Middle East oil profits have gone to the same terrorists we’re fighting, and it makes no sense from a military or national security standpoint,” said Jon Soltz, an Iraq War veteran and Chairman of VoteVets.org. “By investing in new, clean energy sources we can cut our dependence on foreign oil – yet Representatives Barrow, Blunt and Ross have voted against making the United States energy independent.”
“Instead of supporting a comprehensive clean energy bill that safeguards the country, jump-starts the economy and protects the planet for future generations, Representatives Barrow, Blunt and Ross have voted to continue the same failed energy policies of the past,” said Gene Karpinski, president of the League of Conservation Voters.
“Representatives Barrow, Blunt and Ross have voted against building a new clean energy economy that will create the industries of tomorrow and millions of new clean energy jobs,” said Mark H. Ayers, president of the Building & Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO, which represents 13 unions with more than 2 million skilled U.S. craft workers.
The TV ads, titled “Together,” are running on broadcast and cable channels in the members’ districts.
Prior to the committee vote, VoteVets.org ran ads in the districts of Reps. Barrow and Ross showing veterans of the war in Iraq calling on Congress to support a comprehensive clean energy bill ((http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrCBcEcL3F4; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqCSj3Z7_Kc). Additionally, America’s Building Trades Unions ran TV ads in Rep. Ross’ district illustrating that a clean energy jobs plan will make America a global leader in energy, while also developing the domestic energy technologies that will create American jobs and strengthen our economy for years to come (http://www.vimeo.com/4364936). The League of Conservation Voters also ran TV ads in Rep. Blunt’s district (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aI9WbUlBYk4) and radio ads in Rep. Barrow’s district (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ELtksRhp3Q).
Americans are coming together…
Supporting a new clean energy future.
A future that will end our dependence on foreign oil and safeguard our country…
Build new industries and create millions of jobs.
But Mike Ross said ‘no’ – voting against the American Clean Energy & Security Act.
Call Mike Ross and tell him America deserves better.
