It Begins With Energy

President Obama Calls on Congress to Make Clean Energy a Priority

WASHINGTON, DC - Responding to President Obama's speech to the joint session of Congress, LCV President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:

"Tonight, President Obama made history.  His speech marked the first time a President has called on Congress to pass a cap on global warming pollution in an address to both houses.  President Obama knows that such a bill is the single most important step we can take to create jobs in clean energy, improve our energy security, and protect our planet.  As he said so simply when he began to lay out his plan for America's future, 'it begins with energy.'

The hundreds of thousands of members of the League of Conservation Voters will work with and stand behind the President and the Congress to pass a strong, science-based global warming bill this year."
